The Nine Hells of the old cosmology froze solid, inhabitants included, when Asmodeus abandoned them to enact his final plan with the cosmos during the Apocalypse. The spikey, barrern land was then colonized by the inhabitants of what is now known as the Neo Inferno, who proved much better neighbors.
