Anything which appears in The Monster Manual appears in comic books and on TV in-world. Checks to identify any MM monster are either 5 DC easier than they should be and do not suffer disadvantage for untrained checks, or are automatic successes. Beholders, Mind Flayers, Demogorgon, anything with D&D mascot status IRL needs no check whatsoever. Which is like half of them really.
